I’ve been working very hard to be more understanding and less judgmental. I do fully believe in my Life Shoulds, the first of which is Be Kind to all People. And, I do think I am kind for the most part, there are just a few things that really irk me. I’m sure this does not surprise you given my rather vociferous opinions on yoga pants and acting like a fool unnecessarily. I think it’s because I just want all of us to be the best that we can be and have the confidence in ourselves to know that we actually can.
So you are wondering what else could possibly cause another bee to be in my bonnet? Even if you aren’t wondering, you are still reading this so I will tell you; it’s full hair and make-up at the gym! I mean, FULL hair AND make-up, really? If you were with me now you would see serious eye rolling and head shaking. Here I am doing my exercises make-upless and hair in it’s sort-of-bun/sort-of-pony, when out of the locker room come two ladies done up as if they are going out for the evening, just wearing gym clothes in lieu of little black dresses. I don’t understand. Not only does it look out of place at the gym, that perfect make up can’t possibly last with even one drop of perspiration, right? And gyms are not typically filled with flattering low lighting so, ladies, it’s noticeable. But then, these are the ladies that aren’t often actually working out. They are wandering (or prowling).
Ladies, the gym is not the place for photo-shoot ready make-up. And, I can almost guarantee that the men you are attracting (or whomever you are trying to attract) are not the ones with whom you really want to be spending time. You might be surprised how much more positive attention you would get if you showed up at the gym to, you know, work out. And you may even end up interacting positively with other people who also, you know, want to work out, at the gym.
By the way, I don’t mean to always be bashing the ladies. There are plenty of male offenders at the gym as well, you know, the annoying loud cell phone talker discussing their “huge” financial deal loudly (this seems to be men doing this more often, that I’ve noticed anyway). Or, the loud grunting while lifting and dropping of weights unnecessarily (I’m not talking about true body builders here, you know who I mean).
So, I think the message over all is…just go to the gym to work out and please, stop making every moment about being noticed. You are not fooling anyone.
