Life Should #15
Respect others’ boundaries even if you don't agree with them
Otherwise you are just being controlling
This is a tough one for a know-it-all such as myself. I come from a long line of know-it-alls so I am not immune to the annoyances caused by them. This includes assuming your opinion is wanted and, of course, the best. It may very well be (sometimes) but it is a kind of disrespect when you automatically assume you should comment on another person’s choices. This happens most commonly between parent and child and, for the child, it can be detrimental to their own self-confidence. We are all individuals, not copies of each other. Our choices and boundaries deserve consideration. Obviously it is different when a person is in a harmful situation; this isn’t meant to say respect a boundary if someone is harming themselves or others. It means, give pause before you assume you should give someone your opinion.
