Life Should #10
Take public transportation.
It's the only way to really get to know a city and it's people
It really is the only way to get to know a city. And I don’t just mean geographically. You can experience the culture and day-to-day life of a city when traveling the way the people that live there do. The few times I’ve traveled in a way that was more “private” (usually as a guest of someone much better off than myself) I have felt that I missed the point of traveling. Don’t get me wrong, a private car to and from an airport or train station is heavenly; I absolutely see the appeal. But, I have also been left feeling a little empty if I didn’t experience a location beyond my final destination (i.e., a resort). I don’t mean you have to take the “local” each and every time you are heading out (if you have other options). I believe travel should include the experience of the journey, not just the destination.
